  • Thanks so much to the Association for Career and Technical Education for making EntrepreneurshipWeek USA the first of their two Resolutions passed at the annual national ACTE conference in December. Download a copy here. Many educators are planning a special feature for EntrepreneurshipWeek USA at the end of Career and Technical Education Month in February. ACTE is the professional association for all career and technical education educators nationwide.

  • NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation, DC - Hank Kopcial, sponsoring a variety of activities including "Entrepreneur in the Classroom" and 3 free entrepreneurship units downloadable from the website. College Scholarship applications available for young entrepreneurs.

  • National Council on Economic Education, NY is hosting a nationwide random drawing for young people in grades K-12. Students working in groups, or individually, can submit projects celebrating the accomplishments of an entrepreneur from their state. Selected projects will be posted on the Gallery of Entrepreneurs website, which will showcase the contributions to society made by entrepreneurs around the country. In addition $50 will be awarded to the classrooms of students whose projects are chosen in the random drawing. Teachers must register before their students’ entries can be valid. Entries must be sent before February 20, 2007.

  • Biz World Foundation is partnering with the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), Uncommon Individual Foundation, Young Entrepreneurs at Haas (YEAH) of University of California at Berkeley, and Merrill Lynch. Read about the event entitled "Teaching Entrepreneurship - The Trailblazers" scheduled for Tuesday, February 27, 2007, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Arthur Andersen Auditorium, the University of California at Berkeley.   • Ivy Academia (K-12 Grade Entrepreneurial Charter School), Woodland Hills, CA - Tatyana Berkovich, Founder and President reports that their students, parents, teachers, band, and cheer squad are preparing an Ivy Youth Entrepreneurial Convention on March 2 from 9 AM - 1 PM.   • California State University, Fresno, through the Lyles Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, has organized a week of events including a “Creative Coffee Break” with Professor Timothy Stearns (Monday), the Apprentice’s Apprentice hosted by the campus Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (Tuesday), “Surviving the Family Business” with Professor George Vozikis (Wednesday), “Why Franchising is a Success” with Professor Gary Castrogiovanni (Thursday) - Luncheon hosted by Brad Triebsch, Central Valley Fund and ”Hop on the Idea Escalator” with Craig Scharton CE0 of the Central Valley Business Incubator.   • The Marketing program at Porter County Career Center offers an Entrepreneurship Essay Contest to elementary - high school students as well as hosting an Entrepreneur seminar on Friday, March 2, from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Entrepreneurs from many area businesses in all career areas will be part of a panel speaking to our Entrepreneurship and Vocational/Technical students interested in becoming an Entrepreneur.
  • Lake Central High School in St. John, IN is planning to provide a brown bag lunch session each day during EntrepreneurshipWeek USA with a 25 minute presentation by local entrepreneurs.
  • Purdue University Calumet, Entrepreneurship Center - Jamaluddin Husain, supporting the Consortium's "AD-vancing Entrepreneurship Education - Advertising Campaign"; and the "Letters to Young Entrepreneurs" from his class of Mature Entrepreneurs.
  • Cathy Langlois from Hamilton County Alliance reports that they have created a booklet, "If you Started a Business", and are encouraging teachers to read the booklet to Elementary /Middle school students and use the suggested activities to introduce entrepreneurship to their students as an event in support of EntrepreneurshipWeek USA.

Kansas Kentucky
  • The State Leadership Team facilitated by the Kentucky Association of Career and Technical Education and the KY Department of Education plan to combine celebration of CTE Month and Entrepreneurship Week USA, will receive a proclamation from the Governor, and will bring 800-1000 students to visit the KY legislature on February 13. They are sending a newletter featuring EntrepreneurshipWeek USA to all CTE teachers and will have a display of entrepreneurship programs in the State Education Building.
Louisiana

  • Scotlandville Magnet High School announces a whole week of activities starting with the Kickoff Proclamation Ceremony at 8:30 AM in the school library. Governor Kathleen Blanco has signed the EntrepreneurshipWeek proclamation that will be read by staff from the State Office of the Governor and the Office of Economic Development. Tuesday will feature an Emily the Entrepreneur Essay Writing Contest with winners receiving a real doll. All teachers will introduce an awareness activity in their classrooms on Wednesday. Students will submit business plans with trophies to be awarded on Thursday at the School's Business Market Place. Finally on Friday there will be a Small Business Incubator Tour with breakfast and introductions of the new business owners, sponsored by the Micro Enterprise Development Alliance of Louisiana.
Maine
  • State Leadership Team coordinator Valerie Lamont announces the Proclamation from Governor John Baldacci in support of EntrepreneurshipWeek in Maine.
  • The Maine Center for Enterprise Development is an incubator recently located to the University of Southern Maine (USM) Portland campus. An Open House, co-hosted by the incubator and the Center for Entrepreneurship, located in the School of Business at USM will provide students the opportunity to meet with new student entrepreneurs as well as traditional start-up companies from the private sector, located in the incubator. This event will also be used to announce new concentration in Entrepreneurship, recently approved by the School of Business.
  • Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) School of Business, University of Southern Maine, will host a workshop for students featuring entrepreneurs at the Maine Center for Enterprise Development, Feb 28, 2007
  • WMPG, the University of Southern Maine radio station, will announce EntrepreneurshipWeek USA and will interview Students in Free Enterprise on "Why you want to be an entrepreneur".
  • The University of Maine has accepted the national "Challenge" and will convene teams to participate.

  • The University of Nebraska, Center for Entrepreneurship held the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner where a special award was presented to Dr. Tom Osborne who was co-sponsor in the US Congress of the Resolution establishing the first annual national Entrepreneurship Week.
  • First Annual MarketPlace Nebraska - the Opening Doors to Success Conference, February 28, 2007 is sponsored by the Nebraska EDGE Program, University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Key elements of the conference include up to 50 exhibits of entrepreneurial products and services, thirty workshops on business topics, and a Marketplace Store to buy the products from NE entrepreneurs.   • Email The Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln - Glenn a Friendt, Director, reports they will kick off The Week with the Nebraska Distinguished Entrepreneurs Awards dinner on Thursday, Feb 22. Also will honor with a reception for the 24 university teams competing in UNL New Ventures World Competition, Feb 23 and 24. On March 1st they will hold a "Mentoring by the Masters" videoconference for entrepreneurs from UNL to five of the six community college campuses.
  • The CEO of GROW Nebraska, Janell Anderson Ehrke, encourages everyone to do something in honor of EntrepreneurshipWeek USA. She advocates development of entrepreneurship in younger generations as a key to the state's future economic growth. GROW Nebraska has organized a labeling and packaging competition with entries on display at the MarketPlace, sponsored by the Center for Rural Affairs.
  • The Grand Opening of the Entrepreneurship Center at the Southeast Community College in Lincoln took place on February 21. Congratulations to Tim Mittan, Center Director, Jim Krieger, major sponsor from the Krieger Family Foundation, and many partners who made the Center possible to serve all levels of students in the community.

New Hampshire
  • Constance Manchester-Bonenfant, NH Department of Education, and Emily King, University System of NH are serving as facilitators of a very active State Leadership Team, planning for NH to create five core days of specific activities by type of entrepreneurial focus for the Monday through Friday of EntrepreneurshipWeek USA
  • About 400 people across New Hampshire presented, discussed, and received advice and support for their Big Ideas during Entrepreneurship Week New Hampshire, which concluded on March 1st. High school students, college undergraduate and graduate students, and professionals, attended four entrepreneurial events, participated in eight panel discussions, and were inspired by more than 20 entrepreneurs, practitioners, and advisors.
  • New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, in a proclamation, declared February 25th-March 3rd, as Entrepreneurship Week New Hampshire. "Here in New Hampshire, we celebrate and foster innovation in our economy. Entrepreneurship Week is a good way for our state to showcase the excellent work taking place in our communities and encourage our citizens to turn their ideas into solid business plans," the proclamation stated.
  • Entrepreneurship Week New Hampshire featured a week of events focusing on different aspects of instilling the entrepreneurial spirit in participants. Events took place across the state and included Higher Education Day, K-12 Entrepreneurial Education Day, Entrepreneurial Landscape Day, and Business Resource and Funding Day.
    • Monday - Entrepreneurship in Higher Education will feature "Forum on the Future" with NY Times columnist David Leonhardt at CR Sparks in Bedford, NH.
    • Tuesday - K-12 Entrepreneurial Education Day - Somersworth Career Technical Center will feature business and entrepreneur speakers and address the connections between NH schools and the business community.
    • Wednesday - Business Development and Funding Day - Plymouth State University is hosting an event focusing on environmental entrepreneurship.
    • Thursday - NH public entrepreneurial assistance agencies (SBA, SCORE, SBDCs, and Women's Business Centers) will demonstrate how their services assist entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial education. SCORE will unveil an eMentoring program to prepare a student for successful launching of a new venture.
    • Friday - (Note, because of a snowstorm this event took place on Thursday) Entrepreneurship Day New Hampshire at the Wayfarer Convention Center is devoted to celebrating an entrepreneurial way of thinking, the student entrepreneurs, and NH as an entrepreneurial state. Keene State students have produced a video that will be part of many activities focused on increasing entrepreneurship in NH's youth. Major sponsors are the New York Times, University System of NH, and NH EntrepreneurshipWeek USA Committee.
New Jersey
  • Jennifer Beaumont, Office of Innovative Programs in the NJ Department of Education in partnership with the NJ Business and Industry Association is organizing a reception at the State House and working with the NJ Chamber of Commerce to host Webinars for high school students and teachers. The NJ Department of Education Website will list resources and events for the state.

New York
  • Buffalo Schools, NY - Email Kathy Gielow, with a great variety of activities and partners acting together to support EntrepreneurshipWeek USA through the "Empower Youth Entrepreneurs" high school program in Buffalo, NY.
  • Kingsborough Community College, Virtual Enterprise, NY - Jonathan Deutsch and Anthony Borgese, with plans to launch the Entrepreneur in Residence program as well as introducing the CUNY Institute for Virtual Enterprise Sustainable Entrepreneurship Program.
  • NFTE - National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, NY - Mike Caslin
  • Brower Communications - Martha Brower has united the Norwich and Chenango County NY local businesses and community organizations to present the 2007 Entrepreneur FORUM. The event on March 1, 2007, will feature workshops and a Panel of Local Entrepreneurs discussing "What they would avoid if starting their business over again".
  • New York State Leadership Team facilitator, Michael Doyle, announces the following events in Cattaraugus Allegany area:
      New York REAL is sponsoring a POWER LUNCH on February 28, featuring successful young entrepreneur, Michael Lastoria, CEO of Innovation Ads and a 1998 graduate of Fillmore Central School. Two representatives from each of the region's 21 schools as well as regional business people are invited to attend.
    • NYREAL, Cattaraugus Allegany BOCES is co-sponsoring the "Emily/Ethan the Entrepreneur" project, an entrepreneurial creative writing project. The project is open to all 4th grade students in our region. We ask that each 4th grade teacher pick the best stories, one from a male student and one from a female student, from his/her class and submit the winners for recognition. Each teacher-identified female submission will receive an Emily the Entrepreneur doll, and each male submission will receive a K'nex Building System. Creating awareness that "being one's own boss is a viable option" is our goal, and we encourage students to participate in this project.
    • "Celebrating the Arts in Our Schools", is a juried art show at Wellsville Creative Arts Center held on February 26 that is open to all Allegany County high school students working any 2 or 3-dimensional media focused on the arts or artisans. This event was developed in conjunction with the Cattaraugus Allegany BOCES, the Wellsville Creative Arts Center, and local high schools.
North Carolina North Dakota
  • Marketplace for Kids, ND - Marilyn Kipp, serving as coordinator of the ND State Leadership Team. North Dakota Governor John Hoeven was joined at the signing of the Proclamation by 5th Grade Students and Teachers from Roosevelt Elementary School, State Department of Education representatives, InnovateND/ND Department of Commerce, and Marketplace for Entrepreneurs/Marketplace for Kids Leaders. Activities planned are as follows:

  • RI Micro Enterprise Center - Ann Marie Marshall, Ken Proudfoot started their statewide leadership activities September 26 with a Rhode Island Blue Print designed to bring entrepreneurship education to all levels of education in the state, and encourage partner organizations and schools to create events in support of EntrepreneurshipWeek USA. Serving as coordinators for the RI State Leadership Team, and coordinating their organization's "State of Entrepreneurship (TM) " Project and SPARKS.
  • Watch for EntrepreneurshipWeek USA to be featured on NBC-10's Sunrise Show with Frank Coletta on Friday, February 23rd at 6:20 am on their Sunrise Business Report.
  • RI Micro Enterprise Center is featured in two of our local town Magazines: North Kingstown Villager Magazine and the East Greenwich Villager Magazine.

South Dakota
  • The Four Bands Community Fund is sponsoring the 2007 Entrepreneurship Fair on Thursday, March 1 from 10 AM - 8 PM at the Upper Elementary in Eagle Butte, View the entire agenda here.
  • Barb Heller of South Dakota State University shared the 3 days of celebration planned for February 26 - 28, 2007. Events included an Enterprise Institute Open House, a catered dinner for 10 young students at the SD Art Museum, an "Entrepreneurship Resource Fair and Student Roundtable, and a Tech Transfer Series to advance SDSU research into private industry and to foster entrepreneurship.
Tennessee
  • The State Department of Education in Tennessee has issued a Media Release supporting Entrepreneurship Week statewide. "Entrepreneurial endeavors are what keep any economy thriving and progressing", according to Ralph Barnett, Assistant Commissioner for Career and Technical Education. "We want to instill in students a spirit to pursue new ideas and the skills to execute them successfully."

  • Lake Washington High School DECA in partnership with the Washington Association of Marketing Educators has provided leadership for the State Leadership Team and is sponsoring a Kickoff Reception February 23 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM in the Lake Washington School District Boardroom. Partners include Junior Achievement, Washington Business Week, and Northwest Entrepreneur Network. The reception will include presentations of signed proclamations by Governor Gregoire and Mayor Lauinger as well as presentations from all educational levels ... elementary, middle, high school and postsecondary.
  • Lake Washington High School DECA - Lori Jacobs, featuring the Lake Washington Entrepreneur Contest, and a special event that will honor the winners during EntrepreneurshipWeek USA.
  • Everett Community College and Edmonds Community College are partnering to host events in Snohomish County for EntrepreneurshipWeek USA.
