National leadership for entrepreneurship education was recognized by presenting the Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education Awards at the 25th Anniversary Entrepreneurship FORUM, held in Charleston, SC, November 3 - 6, 2007. Receiving the award for USA TODAY was Shobha Giordano, representing USA TODAY Education. USA TODAY Education is the arm of the USA TODAY brand that develops educational products and resources that complement the use of the newspaper for students and educators nationwide. They are major sponsors of the Consortium's initiative to celebrate National Entrepreneurship Week in February 2008 and have provided outstanding resources for entrepreneurship educators and their students. Local leadership for initiating entrepreneurship programs was presented to Rosalind Denning of the Detroit Schools. Rosalind is a long time member of the Consortium and an outstanding leader in initiating entrepreneurship education programs and opportunities for city-wide awareness over a number of years.
This marks the second year of presenting this special award that was named for the founder of the Consortium, Cathy Ashmore, and awarded to her at the annual Entrepreneurship Education FORUM in 2006 by the officers and members of the Consortium. It is considered the top honor for those providing special opportunities for America's youth to learn that there are opportunities everywhere to create their own future through entrepreneurship.
About the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education
The Consortium is a national membership organization that provides leadership to educators nationwide in support of entrepreneurship education as a lifelong learning process. The Consortium was created at the Ohio State University in 1981 to focus on professional development for teachers involved in creating entrepreneurship education programs and activities in the schools, and is now serving educators nationwide as a non-profit 501 ( c) (3) corporation. Composed of over 100 member organizations, the Consortium is celebrating its 25th year with the anniversary conference in Charleston South Carolina and planning for leadership in the 2nd annual National Entrepreneurship Week to be celebrated February 23 - March 1, 2008.
