Risks and Rewards of Entrepreneurship

What does it take to become an entrepreneur?
This career-oriented workbook is designed to introduce students to the many aspects of self-employment. It helps students look at their own personal assets and define a plan of action for their future. It is designed for use in junior high or high school, prior to more advanced entrepreneurship education programs.

Student Workbook:

The four units are activity-based and individually focused. They address
1) Can I Be an Entrepreneur?
2) What Experiences Have I Had?
3) What Type of Business Could I Start?
4) How Can I Prepare to Be My Own Boss?
Each unit has cases of real entrepreneurs, activities, and a diary activity.

Teachers' Resource Guide:

A separate resouce guide is provided for the teacher that includes a teaching outline, presentation masters, and more activities.

Risks and Rewards of Entrepreneurship is now available from the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education in CD format. For those who have used it previously it is no longer published by EMC Publishing. The CD is available for $39.95 including postage and handling. Be All That You Can Dream

Order this teacher's guide to a simulation of planning a mall in your local community. The Guide provides you with all necessary materials and instructions to copy. The simulation was designed to be used with a group of about 50 students, but it has also been adapted to use with as few as 20 and over 100 either youth or adults. Complete Guide and Materials - $30.00

Students work in small groups to compete with each other in designing their stores for the mall. There are a variety of different kinds of activities in the all-day event. Individual packets address decisions on

  1. What Business Am I In,
  2. Your Target Market,
  3. Pricing,
  4. Customer Service Policies,
  5. Personnel and Employee Manual,
  6. Store Front and Layout, and
  7. Advertising.

Judges evaluate the students on their creativity and cooperation, and the student groups evaluate each other on their overall store idea. This is a hands-on project that gives students the feeling of creating a business of their own.

The simulation can be used to train a group of teachers as well as students (Youth or Adults). It can be broken down into class-length time periods, used as two half-day events, or as a single day activity. It is an excellent opportunity to bring in local business owners or other teachers to serve as judges and see your students in action.
